Epically Failed Martin Amidu Needs to Steer Clear of Kissi Agyebeng

Feature Article Epically Failed Martin Amidu Needs to Steer Clear of Kissi Agyebeng
MON, 27 MAY 2024

The widely alleged petition dispatched to the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, by Mr. Martin ABK Amidu, that seeks to have Mr. William Kissi Agyebeng, the 45-year-old “Akyemkwaa” from Okwawu-Nkwatia, where Yours Truly attended St. Peter’s Secondary School (PERSCO) – from 1976 to 1981 – to replace the scandalously ungrateful and epically failed Rawlings-worshipping, Akufo-Addo-appointed former Independent Special Prosecutor, must be accorded the utmost disdain and downright amused contempt that it unreservedly deserves (See “Martin Amidu petitions Akufo-Addo to remove Special prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng” Modernghana.com 5/17/24).

For starters, the Rawlings-appointed “longest-playing” Deputy Attorney-General and Deputy Minister of Justice, under the tutelage of Dr. Obed Yao Asamoah, Ghana’s longest-serving substantive Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, conspicuously lacks the moral authority and the requisite professional credibility to demand the summary removal or the dismissal of his immediate successor. Even as the Atta-Mills-appointed substantive Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Martin Amidu royally botched the trial of the alleged suspects in the heinous act of criminality of the highest order that was the grisly and the barbaric regicidal decapitation of His Royal Majesty, Ya-Naa Yakubu Andani, II, Paramount King of the Ancient Dagbon Kingdom, in Yendi, in 2002, by carelessly and recklessly including a politically snagged and motivated alleged criminal suspect was only four years old at the time of the aforementioned most horrific incident.

A royally defeated Martin Amidu would later claim that it had all been the fault of his immediate predecessor, namely, Mrs. Betty Mould-Iddrisu, the Atta-Mills-appointed Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, whom the petitioner recently informed a standing-room-only audience on the Tamale Campus of the University for Development Studies (UDS), had criminally conspired and colluded with the then newly elected President John Evans Atta-Mills to ataxpayers by using Mr. Alfred Agbesi Woyome, described by the media as the foremost financial underwriter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as the official frontman and scapegoat (See Martin Amidu’s “Keynote Address at UDS’ 18th Harmattan School – Accountable Governance, Violent Extremism and 2024 Elections, February 7-8, 2004).

Ironically, most of the afore-referenced Amidu Guest-Lecturer’s UDS Presentation sought to seriously undermine the credibility and the democracy credentials of the twice-elected Akufo-Addo-led government of the New Patriotic Party. So, it is not clear whether, short of veritable clinical insanity, Mr. Amidu really has any genuine reason to deem both President Akufo-Addo and the ruling New Patriotic Party to reserve the remarkable modicum of moral authority and/or credibility required to promptly and critically sanction Mr. Kissi Agyebeng with the highest level of disciplinary sanction permitted by law, to wit, summary removal.

As of this writing, at least one reliable and professionally credible media source had reported that the Amidu petition against Mr. Kissi Agyebeng had been forwarded to Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo for study and the necessary action, if so deemed. We have our own serious misgivings here, being that ever since the President officially announced the appointment of the University of Ghana- and the Cornell University Law School-educated Mr. Agyebeng, unarguably a far better educated and more professionally astute and capable candidate for the job, Mr. Amidu has been harassing and relentlessly taking potshots at his immediate successor, from pontifically and imperiously inferring without any iota of concrete and/or substantial evidence to the effect that the mere fact of Mr. Agyebeng’s being widely known to have been friends and classmates with Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah-Dame is a prima facie evidence of Mr. Agyebeng’s not being professionally capable of creditably acquitting himself in the portfolio or the highly sensitive Office of the Independent Special Prosecutor, to the petitioner’s equally vacuous accusation of Mr. Agyebeng’s being in egregious violation of procurement protocols and the rampant and the wanton abuse of judges and the very institutional establishment of the judiciary at large.

Now, all this is coming from the man who abruptly resigned his post, ambuscade fashion, in the wake of the breaking of the Agyapa Mineral Heritage Investment Scandal, which the extant Independent Special Prosecutor had publicly alleged to have been singularly hatched by the Kyebi Mafia, so-called, and therefore a veritable act of felonious criminality of unspeakable magnitude which made Nana Akufo-Addo “The Mother-Serpent of Corruption” in Ghana’s entire postcolonial history. Even more significantly, having flown in and out of Great Britain, at the expense of Ghanaian taxpayers to secure foolproof evidence of bribery and extortion involving former President John Dramani Mahama, vis-à-vis the Globally Infamous European Airbus Company Affair, Mr. Amidu would publicly and bluntly declare his intention not to legally or judicially prosecute his former boss and the very man about whom he had written and published reams of book-length essays and tirades, claiming was hellbent on planning and orchestrating his imminent and certain assassination, on grounds that the Leprechaun of Akyem-Abomosu and Kyebi, who had literally resurrected an effectively “demised” Mr. Amidu from the political graveyard of proscription by the Mahama and the Asiedu-Nketia Posse of the National Democratic Congress, was dastardly scheming to criminally, invidiously and unconscionably goring the horse of Martin Amidu’s fellow northern-descended clansmen and tribesmen.

Most keen observers of Fourth Republican Ghanaian Political Culture firmly believe that Martin Amidu was a mole suavely planted by the movers-and-shakers of the National Democratic Congress, who almost succeeded in returning the very fellow “Northern-Descended Tribesman” whom he had hysterically informed the International Community was after his life to Jubilee House. At any rate, the obvious and crystal-clear problem of Martin ABK Amidu is that the epically failed Akufo-Addo-appointed Independent Special Prosecutor can simply not abide the fact that the much younger Mr. Kissi Agyebeng has proven himself to be a far better qualified and efficient Special Prosecutor than himself. Among the Akan, there is a wise and common saying that runs as follows: “When you outrank your neighbor, s/he tends to resent you.” It is as simple as that!

Then also, Mr. Amidu must have refreshingly come to an unimpeachable appreciation of the fact that come torrential rainfall or scorching heat wave, the inevitability of Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia’s being elected Ghana’s Next President on December 7, 2024, is almost a done deal. Actually, the proverbial “Handwriting on the Wall” has been very conspicuous for quite a while now. This self-unraveled and defeated has-been appears to be fiercely fighting to make himself relevant, once more, on Ghana’s Fourth Republican Legal and Political Terrain. But it may be rather much too little and too late in the game.
