Retired Commissioner of Police (COP) Nathan Kofi Boakye, well known as Commander One, has revealed the circumstances surrounding the announcement of the 2016 presidential election results.
According to the retired police commissioner, Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II played a huge role in ensuring the result was peacefully declared.
During an interview on Opemsuo Radio, COP Kofi Boakye, who served as the Ashanti Region Commander, disclosed that it was the intervention of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II that saw the peaceful announcement of the election results.
He explained that the Asantehene engaged with all relevant stakeholders to abide by the prevailing peace and harmony in the country and accept any outcome of the results.
"In fact, when the Electoral Commission encountered challenges in announcing the results of the 2016 election, it was His Majesty who intervened.
“He facilitated the process for Charlotte Osei to be able to announce the results, I'm stating this unequivocally," COP Kofi Boakye remarked.
Elaborating further, he emphasized the essence of the discussions held at the Manhyia Palace, raising the importance of cherishing the work of Asantehene.
"If you know the kind of discussions that transpired at Manhyia, Ghanaians must cherish him (the Asantehene) and pray for his longevity," COP Kofi Boakye urged.
While acknowledging the sensitivity of the matter, COP Kofi Boakye refrained from disclosing all the details of the discussions, emphasizing the need to accord the Asantehene the respect he deserves.
"I'm telling you if you know the level of discussions that took place for the announcement of the 2016 election results... I cannot disclose everything. Therefore, we should show the Asantehene the reverence owed to him," he reiterated.
