Congratulatory Message On Ghanas National Sovereign Independence Day
06.03.2024 LISTEN

The People’s Democratic League (PDL) offers greetings of peace and prosperity to all Ghanaians as they celebrate 67 years of national independence and domestic self-rule. This day today, Ghanaians everywhere celebrate national independence from colonial bondage.

On this 67th independent anniversary therefore, and in the spirit of that deeply held solidarity, we, members of the People’s Democratic League (PDL) join with Africans on the continent and abroad, to celebrate this day with our brothers and sisters in Ghana. We do this by drawing inspiration from the achievements, ideology, and vision of Kwame Nkrumah for the purpose of peace, stability and nation building.

Kwame Nkrumah would forever be remembered for the improved roads, schools, hospitals, factories, the Akosombo Dam, the Tema Harbour and the economic stability, just to mention a few; and for laying the foundation for the unity of the African continent. Nkrumah was overthrown on 24th February, 1966 by the enemies of Africa, and immediately relocated to Guinea Conakry. He was appointed Co-President of Guinea until his death on 27th April, 1972. He died at the age of 63.

More than singing and dancing, Ghana independence should reflect deeper on patriotism, love, honour and humility that characterized Nkrumaism. In a continent that had suffered centuries of slavery, colonial bondage, obnoxious apartheid system, and exploitation of all kinds, celebrating Ghana’s national sovereign independence continent-wide has the potential to reawake the conscience of Africans for a better and prosperous Africa.

Celebrating Ghana’s independence also occasions where we should stand up as a people to fight for stability, development and sustainability of our environment. We must recognize the bonds of African humanity. As we all join to celebrate Ghana’s independence, we should remember the words of the Osayfo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, when he said: ‘The independence of Ghana is meaningless unless it is linked up with the total liberation of the African continent’.

On this auspicious day, we call on all Africans to stand up and rediscover the teaching, taught and preaching of Nkrumah and reaffirm our African solidarity that binds us as a continent. Otherwise we will continue to be oppressed and impoverished by the enemies of Africa.

On this historic day, the People’s Democratic League (PDL) extends its solidarity and heartfelt congratulations to the people of Ghana, and Africa in general, as well as people of African descent living in the Diasporas. The PDL is proud to be associated with the goals of Pan Africanism, the dreams and aspiration of the African people for peace, stability, youth employment, poverty eradication, good healthcare system, education for all, infrastructural development, natural resources development, protection of the environment, available and affordable power and water supply, to mention but a few.

Our mission as always is to defend peace, democracy and democratic good governance. The path to development and progress in Africa is on its end juncture. The thirst for peace, democracy, justice, freedom and dignity on the continent is a clear demonstration of the African people untiring efforts to realize the goals set-out by the architect of the African liberation struggle.

On this day today, the PDL wishes to assure the Government and people of Ghana that we will not abandon our vision and mission for Sierra Leone. No matter the humiliation, misrepresentation, demonization and witch-hunt, the PDL will continue the fight for peace, stability, democratic good governance, justice, freedom, development and sustainability of our environment. This is why PDL has taken the front lead and stand tall among others.

On this day also, we want to demand that the international community including the United Nations, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, African Union, European Union, League of Arab States and ECOWAS exert pressure to prevail on the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) in Freetown to abandon its apartheid policy against PDL members and supporters. What we want from the PPRC is to uphold our human rights and democratic freedoms as Sierra Leonean citizens and not foreigners wanting to register a full-fledged political party for Sierra Leone. We seek justice from the PPRC and not hatred; we seek peace and not pieces; we seek democracy and not mobocracy.

We urge Africans everywhere, particularly Africans living abroad to show love to the continent, which is the only God-given home to Black people, anywhere on the planet. Africa is our home, and let us follow in the footsteps of Kwame Nkrumah and others like Patrice Lumumba, Julius Nyerere, Kenneth Kaunda, Robert Mugabe, Sam Nujuma, Samura Marchell, Amicar Cabral, Nelson Mandela, Thomas Samkara, Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, by working together for the good of all Africans. The patriotic Africans should use Ghana’s independence anniversary to show love for our homeland, called AFRICA!

We wish all Ghanaians and Africans everywhere a happy 67th independence celebration.
