The Minister for Communications and Digitalization, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has outlined various initiatives by the government to advance Ghana's digital transformation agenda and expand access to technology for all citizens.
Delivering updates on initiatives within her sector at the Minister’s Press Briefing held at the Information Ministry on Sunday, February 18, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful highlighted efforts since the government assumed office in 2017 to position Ghana as a leader in digitalization on the continent.
"Government will not leave anybody behind in our quest for digital transformation," she intimated.
The Minister noted that the implementation of the ECOWAS Free Roaming initiative has positioned Ghana as a trailblazer in regional integration, allowing seamless mobile services in neighboring countries without roaming charges.
This fosters greater connectivity and cooperation within West Africa, she stated.
Highlighting the importance of digital inclusion, the minister underscored the pivotal role of technology in socio-economic development and enhancing livelihoods.
"Our vision is to create a digitally empowered nation where every Ghanaian can harness the opportunities afforded by technology," she stated.
She outlined initiatives like the Ghana Rural Telephony and Digital Inclusion Project to expand mobile access to underserved communities and bridge the digital divide.
The innovative GHANA.GOV platform and nationwide eGovernment network were also mentioned as driving modernization of governance and connectivity infrastructure.
Expressing confidence in Ghana's digital future, the Minister urged stakeholders to support realizing the nation's vision of digital empowerment for all.
