Is Ghana Suffering From Dishonesty Syndrome
18.02.2024 LISTEN

Ghana has been afflicted with infectious dishonesty syndrome and it's spreading like a pandemic to everybody in the country. Chairman Jerry John Rawlings sacrificed some six generals to deter others from dabbling in corrupt and dishonest practices.

During the eighties if any prophet attempted to prophesize or predict that Ghana would slide into unbridled corrupt and dishonest behaviors in the new future, no one would have believed that prophet.

Chairman Jerry John Rawlings the apostle of transparency, probity, accountability and good governance was unable to adequately deal with the greed and the corrupt practices that has bedevilled almost everyone and it's effect has rendered most of the citizenry into poverty.

President Rawlings left office very sad and disappointed for not achieving his vision and handed the baton of power to President John Agyekum Kuffour whom Ghanaians thought he would perform exceptionally differently from his predecessor unfortunately corruption fought him to the extent that he acknowledged corruption was as old as man which implies fighting corruption is an arduous task.

Corruption became endemic during Presidents JA Kuffour, Prof. JEA Mills and John Mahama tenure. Under the current administration corruption has broken loose and it is a pandemic afflicting almost everybody.

It appears the political elites deliberately do not want to make corruption a high risk adventure, rather design it as a conduit ostensibly to facilitate their nefarious activities. They often use sledge hammer on petty thieves who either stole goat or cassava but refuses to punish their own who dabbles in grand corruptions.

Most political actors are shameless, unpatriotic, unprincipled, they criticize everything and anything while in opposition and hail and condone the same things which were offensive to them while outside government.

The citizenry have sat down aloof and allowed the ruling elites to create two States where the political elites and their cronies appropriate everything to themselves, they get themselves treated whenever they are sick in hospitals outside Ghana. Water is transported in tankers to their houses, when ever there's water shortages and switch on their generators mounted in their homes automatically whenever the national trip off, whilst the other State members are subjected to drudgery of travelling long hours in search of water, electric power can go off for days or weeks before it would be restore in the affected communities.

The painful spectacle is running down all the government health facilities in the country to the extent that the Noble Chief Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu became frustrated and lost confidence in the governance architecture and decided to fix the neglected Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital by appealing for funds to resuscitate the premier hospital in the Ashanti region.

Fellow country men, we've allowed these unprincipled greedy people whom we queue for long hours and had them elected, have disrespected the citizens for far too long. Let's us call-out and shame those unprincipled characters parading the corridor of power.

The time is now we vote out as many unproductive Members of Parliament and replace them with those who have the capacity and courage to tell their leaders the truth no matter how bitter it may be.
