Dr. Zilla Limann, a daughter of Ghana's former President Dr. Hilla Limann is working to preserve the legacy of her late father through a new foundation.

Dr. Zilla lamented that her father's achievements and contributions are not widely recognized in Ghana today due to the actions of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) military government that overthrew him on December 31, 1981.

In an interview with Accra-based 3FM, Dr. Zilla revealed that the Rawlings-led PNDC military administration burnt all her father’s records.

“When the coup d'etat happened and the after-effects of the coup d'etat, one of the things that the PNDC government did was to consciously erase a lot of things about Dr. Hilla Limann. They erased, so literally, from the bizarre burning of GBC to whatever,” she said.

She explained that the PNDC "erased everything or almost everything" about Dr. Limann, making it difficult to find information about his time as President in history books and records.

To help preserve her father's legacy, Dr. Zilla has established a foundation in his name.

She said the foundation's goal is "to create more awareness" of Dr. Limann's achievements and "what he did, the impact he had, how he contributed to the building of our motherland today."
