Information available to this portal reveals that the Walewale constituency Parliamentary primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 would be challenged in court.
The Electoral Commission (EC) declared Dr Mahama Tiah Abdul-Kabiru as the NPP Walewale Parliamentary Candidate elect for the 2024 general elections.
He reportedly obtained 345 votes against 338 votes polled by the incumbent Member of Parliament, Hajia Lariba Zuwera Abudu. The other two contestants in the race, Tahiru Sham-an and Jangdow Mahama had 145 and 1 votes respectively.
However, information available reveals the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection and incumbent MP for Walewale, Hajia Lariba Abudu has vowed to file an injunction on the results.
She believes the results were fraudulently declared in favor of Dr Mahama Tiah Abdul-Kabiru.
According to her, some disputed ballot papers were allegedly added to the results which gave an advantage to the Dr Mahama Tiah Abdul-Kabiru. She claims the electoral commission officials were compromised during the process.
Consequently, the polling agent of the legislator declined to append his signature on the declaration sheet in protest of the results.
He also called for a recount of the ballots but the EC officials blatantly refused to grant his request prompting the court action.
