Has Bawumia Fulfill His Mandate?

When Vice president and flag bearer of the npp for the 2024 elections, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was chosen as running mate to partner Akufo-Addo, it was basically because of his supposed economic background. When they where in opposition, Dr. Bawumia was presented to Ghanaians as the economic messiah who have the solutions to our economic difficulties.

According to Akufo-Addo, he selected Bawumia as his running mate because he believed he had the competence and experience to help him turn the economy around. In the 2018 State of the nations address (SONA), President Akufo-Addo credited Bawumia for the supposed economic gains the government had made.

Amazingly, Bawumia has proven to be a total failure as head of the Economic Management Team and has supervised the most abysmal economic performance in the history of the fourth republic. The numbers speaks for themselves. To quote him "when in doubt, observe the exchange rate". What is the exchange rate today as compared to 2016?

December, 2016: Infation-15.4%, Public debt-GHc120 billion,debt to GDP ratio-56%, no debt default, exchange rate-$1:GHs 4, interest rate 25%.

Today, inflation is hovering around 43%, we have defaulted in payment in both our domestic and external debts. Exchange rate is 1: 12 Ghana cedis, interest rate is 30%. Worse of all, our debt to GDP-600billion plus translating into nearly 100%. That is the records of Bawumia, the supposed economic messier.

After supervising the near-collapse of the economy, Bawumia has suddenly went silent on the economy which he always boasted of and has turned himself into a comical digitalization champion, all in a bid to distance himself from the political implications of his abysmal performance as chairman of the Economic Management Team.

Dr. Bawumia therefore, has nothing to offer the good people of Ghana. He has failed to deliver on the mandate that was given to him by his boss. Again, He is just a replica of Nana Addo and will be controlled by him. The reason he is being presented is to protect the corrupt, family and friends appointees of this government from going to jail. But Ghanaians are descending and have already read in between the lines and will never make a mistake to vote for Bawumia.
