Tamale Central Member of Parliament (MP), Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed has criticized President Akufo-Addo over his controversial comments during his visit to Mepe.
Murtala Mohammed said the president's comments were inappropriate.
He said in a TV3 interview that the President of the country, Akufo-Addo ought not to make such remarks because his well-being is funded by taxpayers.
The president's politicization of his visit, he noted, was out of place.
“ Whether the people vote for you or not, you will be there because your comfort is ensured by their taxes. This is not the first time the president has made such reckless and irresponsible statements on the matters of the sufferings of the people in regards to politics,” Murtala Mohammed stated.
President Nana Akufo-Addo on Monday, October 16, stirred controversy when he subtly told some victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage at Mepe in the Volta Region that he visited to sympathize with them regardless of the fact that the residents there do not vote for his party.
“I came here because Ghanaians are having difficulties and are suffering, and it is my responsibility to try and help, because, if it is a question of counting who votes for me and who doesn't vote for me, then I shouldn't be here, because you don't vote for me, but that is not my concern and, in any event, one day you will vote for me and my party," President Akufo-Addo stated.
