As The Akyem Turn.....
24.08.2023 LISTEN

By the way, the enstoolment of a pretender as chief of Adoagyiri near Nsoamu by the Paramount Chief of Akyem Abuakwa, based on an unsupported historical claim, is truly a Gangster Mafia move.

And the laughably unjustificatifiable claim that the town is not coterminously linked with Akyem Kotoku, the legal owner; and therefore cannot be part of Kotoku, stinks to the high heavens.

Adɛn, yato aba ama Wo Nana enti a, na yɛse bɛyɛ yɛnso Simpa Prako.

Kwaku Domprɛ (Ɛdom Pre no) of Kotoku was the Chief of Adoagyiri in the year 1867. Adoagyiri was set up as the "Ankɔbea Stool" of Akyem Kotoku. I mention that to situate the historic Kotoku claim to Adoagyiri, in its valid context.

Nana Dompere was hired as a Mercenary fighter by the British to counter Otumfoɔ Gyaasewahene Adu Bɔfoɔ Obuabasa, during the Krepi War or Hwa Sa 1869-1872. And he gave Buabasa a rather stiff military toe to to challenge.

Such was Nana Dompere's fire power at the Battle of Atakpame, in 1871, that Buabasa, retreated a bit, and regrouped. He also had to put in a request for fresh troops from Ɔsɛikrom.

Asantehene Kofi Kakaari Okumkɔm, refused the request, and ordered Buabasa to return to Kumase or face immediate destoolment.

All the War aims had been achieved:
1. Asante geopolitical goal had been achieved. Asante had gained control over the Trade (Shipping Lane) on the Firao (Volta) River. That countered the imminent British blockade of Asante costal access at Elmina and Axim.

2. Two Thousand Atakpames and Ewes were being marched to Kumase. They would later serve as Artisans, Gold diggers (Otumfoɔ's), etc., at "Akyerekuro" settlements in gold shearing areas such as at Konongo, and Amanse, and Adansi.

3. The French Fur Trader Joseph Bonnat was arrested and marched to Kumase, from where he was sent to Sraga (Salaga) to oversee Ɔsantihene commercial interests. He was freed by the British after The Sagranti War 1873-74.

4. The Basel Missionaries were arrested at Anum by Akwamuhene Nana Kwafo Akoto 1866-1882, and marched to Buabasa's War Camp at Krepi (Peki). They were subsequently marched to Kumase to await Buabasa's return. The Basel Missionaries and their Leader Reverend Fritz Ramseyer spent 4 years as a Prisoner in Kumase, they were freed after the aforementioned Sagranti War.

4. Asante mutually beneficial Friendship with the Anlo State, the "Adamfo Relationship," to borrow the words of Historian D.E.K. Amenumey, had been cemented. Togbi Sri I, the Awoamefia actually supported Asante on the battlefield in 1869.

Ramseyer later set up the Asante Mission, through which the Basel Church (later called Presbyterian Church) was established in the 1880s at Kumase, Dwaben, Agogo Bompata, and Abetifi (Kwawu).

In spite of these achievements, the youngest Son of the original Opoku Frɛdɛfrɛdɛ (Frefre) ignored the Asantehene orders. He fought on till he defeated the Kotoku Adoagyiri mercenary in 1871. That brought to an end the War known in History as HWA SA; KREPI WAR, or ADU BƆFOƆ SA. Buabasa Adu Bɔfoɔ arrived in Kumase as a War Hero in 1872.

He "ransomed" the body of the gallant Adoagyiri Chief Kwaku Dompere I, to the British for a fee.

In 2007, Akyem Kotokuhene swore-in Afutu Dompere II, as Adoagyirihene, and Akobiahene of Akyem Kotoku. All was quiet on the Abuakwa front with regards to Adoagyiri matters.

In 2023, Nana Amoatia Ofori Panin decides to wrestle Adoagyiri from Kotoku. The swearing-in was helped, according to the news report; by the presence of "heavily armed Police;" and "Okyeman Taskforce." Whatever the latter group means.

By placing Adoagyiri under Apedwahene, Nana Amoatia Ofori Panin has pitted the Apedwa AGONA Abusua Stool against the Oda AGONA Abusua Stool. Now, if that's not Mafia Gangsta move, then this AGONA Busuanii was born Last Night. Mɔfra MFA Adwene.
