Dr. Okoe Boye, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Health Insurance Authority, has come to the defense of former President John Dramani Mahama regarding allegations that he supports the LGBTQ+ fraternity.
During Mahama's tenure as President, he faced serious criticism, particularly when it was reported that he had connections with a gay lobbyist named Andrew Solomon.
In light of calls for the passage of anti-LGBTQ+ bill in Ghana, which seeks to outlaw homosexuality in the country, Dr. Boye expressed his views on Mahama's alleged support for the LGBTQ+ community during a discussion on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show monitored by ModernGhana News.
Dr. Boye stated that there is no evidence to suggest that Mr Mahama is gay, as he has demonstrated through his personal life that he is a heterosexual man.
The CEO pointed out that Mahama's lovely family is even clear that he does not possess any characteristics indicative of being a gay.
However, Dr. Boye acknowledged that apart from the current President Nana Akufo-Addo, Mr Mahama did not openly declare his position against the LGBTQ+ community during his presidency.
"I don't believe Mahama is gay. If someone tells me that JM is gay, I will tell you it is a lie. The deed speaks more words," Dr. Boye stated during the discussion.
"He is not gay, but during his four-year tenure as President, I don't recall any platform he stood on to condemn homosexuality," he added.
