The campaign to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is becoming more intensive as the days go by. All the aspirants are strategizing and moving into the constituencies to meet the delegates. Whiles a vetting committee is seriously executing it's mandate by vetting the aspirants as scheduled, the aspirants are unperturbed about the outcome of the vetting as they continue to campaign for votes.
The camp of Hon. Alan Kojo Kyerematen started their constituency delegates durbar or cluster campaign on the 4th of July, 2023 in the Greater Accra Region. It is publicly known that Hon. Peter Amewu, MP for Hohoe is one of the very few members of parliament (MPs) who are supporting Hon. Alan Kyerematen. He has been spotted with Alan a couple of times of late and he even accompanied him to submit and file his nomination forms. He is part of the Alan's campaign team as they start the unusual and delegate-burden cluster campaign. Hon. Peter Amewu was given the opportunity to introduce Hon. Alan to the delegates at the gathering and he went like "with honour and respect, I want to use this opportunity to introduce to you the next incoming Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, in the person of Hon. Alan Kojo Kyerematen". What could inform this profound pronouncement by the Hon. MP?
There has been an opinion by some stalwarts of the NPP that, the easiest way to break the eight is to field Bawumia - Alan ticket for the 2024 general elections. This Bawumia - Alan ticket is being championed by some respected members of the NPP such as Hon Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, MP for Suame and Majority leader of Ghana's parliament, Hon. Samuel Atta Akyea, MP for Abuakwa South, Hon. Nana Akomea, former MP and current managing director, intercity STC coaches limited, among others. Though almost all the proponents of this opinion have joined Dr. Bawumia's camp but the majority leader still believes that Bawumia - Alan partnership is still possible.
Is it the case that the recent introduction of Alan by his main man to delegates as incoming Vice President is just a slip of tongue or the Alan's camp is reasoning with the respected individuals' opinion on the Bawumia - Alan ticket for 2024 due to the reality on the grounds? Could it be that, the Alan's main man all that while has been thinking that Alan is best suit for the Vice Presidential slot relative to the 2024 general elections? It is possible that Alan's camp might be thinking of Alan running with Dr. Bawumia and eventually becoming the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana in 2025 with Dr Bawumia as President. Can it be possible at this time of intense internal campaign?
In my opinion, the possibility of partnership of the two aspirants in the 2024 general elections dwindles as the days go by. It will be practically impossible after the special delegates conference and the presidential primary, hence, the earlier decision is made, the better, else, the perceived thought of Hon. Alan becoming the next Vice President of Ghana, that transmitted into a loud sound on a rally ground in the presence of delegates, would become a mirage.
The DMB signal is becoming stronger day in, day out and it is obviously clear that Dr. Bawumia will most likely become the flagbearer of the NPP, hence, the only available highest slot going into the 2024 elections will be the running mate. This will be another competitive position that obviously an aspirant in the presidential primary after the contest would not be given any chance again to partner Dr. Bawumia and as I earlier indicated, the decision is now or never.
