The CEO of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Mr. Opoku-Ahweneeh Danquah has spoken about Ghana's oil prospects in the little-explored Voltaian Basin in an interview with Offshore Africa Magazine.
In a special report published in the magazine's June edition, Mr Danquah shed light on GNPC's plans to start the first drilling in the Voltaian Basin by early next year.
He revealed that the Voltaian Basin Project holds the potential to be a "game changer" for Ghana's oil and gas sector.
According to the CEO, the Voltaian Basin is underexplored compared to the currently producing Jubilee and TEN fields located in the Saltpond Basin offshore Ghana.
Mr. Danquah added that GNPC is keen to accelerate exploration in the Voltaian Basin to help maximize Ghana's hydrocarbon resources.
The CEO noted that early drilling and seismic data indicate the possible presence of working petroleum systems in the Voltaian Basin but more appraisal is needed.
GNPC is now putting plans in place to kick off a multi-well drilling campaign in the Voltaian Basin in collaboration with industry partners.
