The new Chief Justice of Ghana, Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo has officially taken over office today, Monday, June 12.
At the Jubilee House early today, the President of the Republic, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo swore into office the new Chief Justice at a brief ceremony.
According to the President, he has no doubt that the new Chief Justice will do a fantastic job just like her predecessors.
President Akufo-Addo at the swearing-in ceremony said Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo will be a dependable and trustworthy partner to ensure that the judiciary and executive work harmoniously to entrench the rule of law in Ghana.
Speaking after she was sworn in as Chief Justice, she pledged to show commitment towards the delivery of the mandate of her office.
Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo indicated that she is aware she stands on tall shoulders [of predecessors] and will give her best.
The new Chief Justice has risen to the top position after serving at the High Court, Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court, where she was appointed in 2019 by President Akufo-Addo.
She has over 19 years of experience and could serve as the country’s Chief Justice for 10 years.
Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo has become the third female Chief Justice in the history of the country, joining an enviable list that has Justice Georgina Theodore Woode and Sophia Akuffo as the pacesetters.
