David Apasera using Janet Nabla’s name to resurrect his dead name – PNC

The People's National Convention (PNC) has threatened to sue its 2020 flagbearer David Apasera.

This comes after the PNC’s 2020 flagbearer’s sued the party’s General Secretary Janet Nabla for defamation.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, 23 May 2023, co-signed by its Communication Secretary and Policy Analyst/Ashanti Regional Secretary, Samuel Ayesu Sulemana Seidu and Communication Secretary, Samuel Ayesu Sulemana Seidu, the PNC noted: “It has come to the notice of the party that the dismissed 2020 flag bearer, David Apasera, is going round radio and television stations claiming he is suing the General Secretary of the party, Janet Nabla for defamation of character.

“The party would want all media stations to ignore him because the media is not the court and he knows the way to the court," the statement said.

According to the PNC, “David Apasera, ever since he was removed as Leader and subsequently dismissed from the party, has been to the court seven times to challenge his dismissal and he has been unsuccessful."

The party also accused the 2020 flagbearer of using the General Secretary’s name to resurrect his career.

“We are appealing to the media and the general public to disregard David Apasera and his nuisance. He is only using the name of the General Secretary, Janet Asana Nabla, to resurrect his dead name,” it stressed.

The 2020 presidential candidate of the PNC has sued the General Secretary of the party for defamation.

According to the writ, Ms Nabla “since sometime in or around 2021, Defendant has embarked on a smear campaign against the Plaintiff by granting interviews at various media (TV, radio, newspaper) outlets with the view to damaging Plaintiff’s image and reputation.

Mr Apasera who is also the Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolgatanga sued the PNC General Secretary for defaming him during a programme at Accra-based ETV Ghana, which was subsequently published.

“The Publications complained of were calculated to besmirch the reputation and character of Plaintiff and to lower his esteem in the eyes of the right-thinking members of the general public as part of a grand scheme to get Plaintiff removed from his position as the leader of the PNC.”

The 2020 Presidential Candidate further indicated that “by reason of the publications complained of Plaintiff has been seriously injured in his reputation and has been brought into public scandal, odium and contempt.”

Mr Apasera is, therefore, seeking relief from the court including: “A declaration that the words published or caused to be published by the Defendant,” are “derogatory.”

“General Damages for publication of Defamatory words published or caused to be published by Defendants, an order for perpetual injunction restraining the Defendant either by herself or her agents or assigns from further publishing or causing to be published and or distributing defamatory words against Plaintiff.”

He is further seeking “Exemplary damages of 1,000.000 (One million Ghana Cedis) against Defendant for publishing or causing to publish the defamatory words,” against Plaintiff.

Also, an “Order directed at the Defendant to retract and apologise for the defamatory publication and cause same to be published on,” some media platforms indicated by Mr Apasera, “together with 4 publications on the front and back pages of the Daily Graphic Newspaper for 4 consecutive weeks” and “cost including lawyer’s fee.”
