Isaac Adongo, the Deputy Ranking Member of the Parliament's Finance Committee, is questioning the whereabout of the Ghanaian team that negotiated the $3 billion bailout deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

He said the country failed to present a clear-cut policy to the IMF team due to a lack of a well-composed team from Ghana

“Because there was no policy document on the part of the Ghanaian delegation during the negotiation hence, the decision of the IMF to foist their policies down our throat,” he stated.

He explained that the agreement the nation reached was the result of the Finance Minister's own work without the team.

The $3 billion IMF bailout, according to the MP for Bolgatanga Central, is a mixed bag that will worsen the nation's problems.

The MP said this during an interview with Nana Ama Agyarko, a sit-in host for The Citizen Show on Accra 100.5 FM on Thursday, May 18, 2023.

According to him, the sector minister used his familiarity with the IMF team members—whom he managed to persuade to approve the deal for Ghana.

“When the NDC went to the IMF in 2015, it had a team chaired by the late Prof Kwesi Botchwey.

“Where are the team members of the 2023 delegation except the Finance minister?” he asked.

The first tranch of the $3 billion extended credit facility from the International Monetary Fund is expected to reach Ghana's account by today, Friday, May 19, 2023.

At a joint press conference on Thursday, 18 May 2023, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta said: "There is a $600 million release, and we will be working with the IMF to see if we can get it by tomorrow, and then we will move on to the next 6 months which will be another $600 million, and then we move on to about 5 different tranches every 6 months in the periods ahead."
