'No Time To Die' - King Ampaw's Latest Film

THE crème de la crème in Ghana's film industry last week Thursday night trooped to the Golden Tulip Hotel in Accra to witness the screening of King Ampaw's latest film, "No Time To Die".

"No Time To Die" is a two-hour full length feature film which portrays love and comedy, directed by Ampaw, a renowned Ghanaian film maker. It is produced by Wolfgang Panzer, a German.

It is supported financially by the European Union, the French government and Afro Movies Limited, King Ampaw's film production "Nana Akoto" and "Kukurantumi," two of King Ampaw's feature films. No Time To Die will be put on DVDs and sold to the public soon.

The play is a Ghanaian-German collaboration set in Ghana and seeks to portray love the Ghanaian way while providing some comic relief.

The setting is both in the city and the village and parades some of the country's actors and actresses.

Among the actors and actresses who feature in the film are King Ampaw, Kofi Bucknor, David Dontoh, Kofi Middleton Mends and Fritz Bafuor.

Others are Kwesi France, Ashong Katai, Nii Omar Hunter, Adokwei Moffat and Agnes Dapaah.

The film tells the story of David Dontoh, a hearse driver who will do anything to serve and win the love of a lady he has fallen in love with.

This ranges from offering to convey dead bodies of the relations of the lady he wants to marry, to showering her with gifts of grasscutter and driving his hearse out to see his girl friend at Kokrobite beach with an explanation to his master that there is a dead body there.

The suitor faces very stiff opposition from his father-in-law to be who vows that his daughter will not marry a hearse driver.

King Apaw explains that his film was meant to break the jinx of the trend of other African movies. "Most of the African movies we see are either on poverty or HIV/AIDS and so forth." African film makers could also make people laugh, he said.

"Whether in poverty or sickness, people must also have time to relax and enjoy themselves."

The Chairman of the National Commission for Culture, Professor George Hagan, commended King Ampaw and his collaborators for coming out with the film. "You have revealed the Ghanaian genius and has shown to the whole world that we have the potential and are creative," he added.
