Farouk Aliu Mahama, son of the late former Vice President of Ghana, Alhaji Aliu Mahama has recounted his father’s defeat in the 2008 NPP presidential primaries.
Mr. Aliu Mahama said his father was betrayed by the party, particularly by members he believed were on his side.
Being with his father throughout the campaigns in 2008 and witnessing the sad ending made him also give up on politics.
In an interview with Accra-based Joy News monitored by Modernghana News, the son of the late VEEP said he rescinded his decision due to his zeal to continue his late father’s political legacy.
"My father suffered a huge betrayal in the NPP's 2008 flagbearership election... that experience almost made me hate politics, but I said to myself I won’t let my father's name be erased from politics," said the Yendi MP.
The late H.E. Alhaji Aliu Mahama lost the 2008 NPP primaries which was held at the University of Ghana, Legon.
