Professor Seidu Alhassan has officially taken over as the new Vice Chancellor of the University for Development Studies (UDS), Tamale campus.
Professor Seidu succeeds Professor Gabriel Ayum Teye as the fifth Vice Chancellor of the University for Development Studies.
Professor Ayum Teye, who rose through the ranks of the University to the position of VC, served in this capacity for seven years until his retirement.
Prior to his appointment as the VC by the governing council of the University, Professor Seidu served in various capacities at UDS, including as a Pro vice Chancellor from 2015-2019.
At a handing-over ceremony at the University, the outgoing VC charged his successor to complete some stalled infrastructure projects to increase enrollment.
“The completion of the anatomy block is very crucial, and we must ensure that we complete that basic infrastructure,” he said.
In response, the new VC accepted the challenge but called for the support of staff to accomplish the task.
“No leader wants to take over power and leave nothing behind, you are aiming at leaving behind results. So for me, this power is for people, it’s for ongoing projects, it’s to create wealth and in creating this wealth, at this institute we have to do it with efficiency and competence, and the result will show at the end of the day.”
The investiture ceremony of Professor Seidu Al-hassan is expected to take place on October 11, 2022.
