The Answers We Give (Bad Advice Ep XI)

The Answers We Give (Bad Advice Ep XI)

Hello my lovely neighbors, Felicitations from the headquarters of Bad Advice Inc., we apologize for not serving you with your weekly dose of this unruly advice. Today is another day and we visit you tent with a tablespoonful of our advice with hopes that it works the magic it has been doing always. So, over the next two episodes I will be visiting some of the stories I heard from my children mass days, I hope you guys will enjoy them.

The first of the stories for this episode was told by Rev Fr. Matthew Tufffuor Amoah, he told us that once upon a story there was a childless poor couple living in lonely on the outskirt of their community, they were despised by almost all their community members due to their predicament, it must be stated that the man was also blind. One day, God visited and they hosted him well and God was moved by their humanity and decided to grant them one wish. He called the couple and told them to ask that one thing they need badly so that he [God] does it for them, after moments of quietness and silent contemplation the man said, “Lord I want to see my children eating from a golden bowl” and by the end of the year the couple were blessed with twins, riches and the man’s sight was restored.

The second story was a one I heard from Rev. Fr Gregory Afful, just this Sunday (17/07/22), he also talked about a poor couple who lived on their farms with their daughter one afternoon when the man was working on the farm some three men visited is wife at home an when they met the woman, they introduced themselves as Love, Wealth and Riches. They said that they were embarking a long journey but, they wanted on of them to stay with the family but, that person should be choice of the couple, looking at the puzzling nature of the request the woman asked that she consult her husband so that they make the decision together, when the man came and heard of the situation at hand, he realized that love was very old and could die at anytime if they choose him so he called his into their so that they take a decision, but after hours they could not come t a closure because the wife wanted riches and the husband wanted wealth. The room was heated until their daughter shouted out of frustration that ‘you are so focused on yourselves that you cant show me love’, they paused for a while and with forceful smile they came to conclusion that they will choose love. When they came out and announced their influenced decision to choose love they heard both Riches and Wealth saying that, they can’t leave their old man Love behind since he is their leader and they live and thrive on his word and actions.

Beloved, the above stories may not be new to you or you may treat it as one of those stories but, what I want to draw your attention to is the answers the people in both stories gave; if it were left to me and you, we would have rushed our answers and give an impulsive answer which will do us no good. I want to humbly plead with you that anytime you have an answer to give or a decision to make, pause for a moment and reflect on the implications of your answer. Be ye reminded that we are the product of the decisions awe make or the answers we give, it is always prudent to reflect on you, your situation and the aftermath of your choice before you answer someone or decide on something, never ever take a decision or answer based on impulse, someone’s pressure or lifestyle and most importantly on the wings of some bad decision of yester-years because you live with the regrets or happiness of the answer or decision you take. Sometimes you don’t have to answer or take a decision let nature take if course, remember that “life is a mystery it must be lived forward but, understood backwards (Sorensen Kiekegaard)”.

I am on a storytelling journey with aim of educating the next generation with my words. I love taking pics of mundane things, I love art, I love talking about anything that brings hope to the world. I have recreated the world a billion times, let's binge on hope and never give up.. More Kof[f]i Adu Flair the Demigod, a teacher by profession, a banker by occupation and a writer by calling. I love to read and write; writing is my go-to when I am overwhelmed. I write and perform poetry, short stories (write), love taking photographs of the sunset skies. I am based in Obuasi and I consider myself a learner in the art space because there is always something new to learn in this space, ultimately I believe we all can be writers or find an occupation in the world of art, because that space is big enough to accommodate us.Column: Kofi Adu Flair
