Our candidate won Techiman South seat as declared by EC

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) is insisting that its parliamentary candidate for the Techiman South constituency in the 2020 polls, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, won the seat as declared by the Electoral Commission .

At a press conference today, Wednesday, December 23, 2020, addressed by the party’s 2020 campaign manager, Mr. Peter Mac-Manu, it said the He thus said the National Democratic Congress was engaging in acts of deception to cause public disquiet with claims it won the seat.

Mr. Adjei Korsah polled 49,682 while his contender polled 49,205, the party added.

“We have called you in respect of the Techiman South constituency. I must state that we do not speak for the EC, but we speak for ourselves. It is important to state upfront that the NPP parliamentary candidate for Techiman South, Mr. Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah won that election as so declared by the EC. For the avoidance of doubt, we present the results of Techiman South as per all the pink sheets available to us.”

“Martin Adjei Korsah who represented the NPP had 49,682 and the NDC candidate [Christopher Bayere Baasongti] had 49,205. So per this, our candidate was duly elected for Techiman South for the next Parliament 2021.”

Contentions over Techiman South results

The seat has been in contention by the two leading political parties as the NDC insists there was no collation of results and rejected the EC's announcement as the NPP candidate as the winner.

The Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu at a press conference on Tuesday , December 22, 2020, to present pink sheets from each polling station in the constituency as the basis for its insistence that it won the seat accused the government of “working to deny the NDC a parliamentary majority.”

According to him, data available to them indicates that the NDC secured 50,306 votes against the NPP's 50,013 with 919 rejected ballots.

He thus concluded that the NDC candidate won that election by 293 votes.

The Minority has further petitioned the EC over the results in Techiman South.
