Use the law courts to address election concerns

The team lead for elections at the Center for Democratic Development (CDD), Rhoda Osei Afful is urging the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to resort to the law courts to address their concerns with the outcome of the 2020 elections.

According to her, it is important that political parties do not lose sight of the appropriate remedies to utilize with regards to election disputes.

Speaking on Eyewitness News, Rhoda Osei Afful stated that, “Given all that is happening, if there is genuine concern that indeed, parties have raised issues with the processes but these issues were not addressed satisfactorily, then the party can appeal to a higher authority beyond the body responsible for these processes and in this case, the court will be the most appropriate place.”

“Today we heard about the petition [of the NDC]. The issue is will that be the most appropriate place or mechanism for seeking redress? It will be important for the stakeholders to write again to the EC and see what the feedback will be and if it is not satisfactory, you could go beyond the Commission.”

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has insisted that its candidate won the elections contrary to the announcement from the EC that the NPP candidate, Martin Agyei Mensah Korsah won the polls.

The party has said that it will not accept the results of the elections because it was fraught with several irregularities including chaos at the collation center.

The NDC held a presser in parliament on Tuesday December 22, 2020 to publicly show the pink sheets from all polling stations which forms the basis for its insistence that the party’s parliamentary candidate won the elections.

Meanwhile, the party has been holding series of protests across the country to protest the outcome of the elections.

The party’s presidential candidate in the 2020 polls, John Mahama has called for the protests to be done peacefully.
