The concerned assembly members of the Bono East region has pledged to do house to house campaign for John Mahama to ensure his victory in the December 7 polls.
This pledge was borne out of their delight about John Mahama’s decision to pay assembly members monthly allowances while hoping that he will increase their x- gratia from the current GHc1500.00 they receive at the end of their tenure.
The main agendum of the group is to work hard and make sure John Mahama’s campaign promise to them comes to fruition. In order to facilitate their work which involves a lot of mobility, they implored John Mahama to bring back his motorbikes for assembly members initiative which the NDC introduced before leaving power in 2016. They further noted that some of them are well educated and capable of handling any appointment in his government.
In response, John Mahama assured them of reversing the NPP's reduction of DACF from 7.5% to 5% back to 7.5%. This he said will ensure the availability of funds for local developmental needs like toilets, CHPS compounds, etc. He added he will create a special account for LEAP beneficiaries with its own board of trustees and prioritize its early payment to beneficiaries.
To enhance rural agriculture, the former President pledged to support persons with disabilities with interest in agro-processing with free equipment. In addition, he said he will ensure proper decentralization of local governance by involving assembly members in the registration of birth and death exercises; involve assembly members in the selection of beneficiaries for the national apprenticeship programs (NAP).
For the requested motorbikes, John Mahama emphasized his resolve to ensure they get their motorbikes on time to help them carry out their duties efficiently. He finally advised them to also ask their electorates to go out and check their names in the ongoing voter exhibition exercise by the EC as this is key to realizing their dream of returning him to power to get their own dreams achieved.
