The Educational Workers Connect (EWC) has called on President Akufo-Addo to fire the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Awutu Senya East Constituency, Mavis Hawa Koomson following her gunshot incidence.

This comes after the Minister for Special Development Initiative admitted firing gunshot on Monday during a tour of voter registration centers in her Constituency.

Despite indicating that the gun was fired to defend herself after being attacked by alleged NDC thugs, Mavis Hawa Koomson has been condemned by several organizations.

In a statement from the Educational Workers Connect, President Akufo-Addo needs to immediately sack the Minister for Special Development and Initiative for her action.

“The leadership and entire membership of Educational Workers Connect (EWC) is humbly calling on His Excellency Nana Addo as a matter of urgency fire the Minister for Special Development Initiative and Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Hon Hawa Koomson for firing a gun”, a part of the EWC statement said.

According to the group, “It is very regrettable and shameful for an honourable member of the legislature to have exhibited such a reprehensible, criminal and condemnable act”.

Meanwhile, EWC has further called on all and sundry to maintain peace before, during, and after the 2020 General Election.

PRESIDENT NANA ADDO SHOULD FIRE HON HAWA KOOMSON-EDUCATIONAL WORKERS CONNECT

The leadership and entire membership of Educational Workers Connect (EWC) is humbly calling on His Excellency Nana Addo as a matter of urgency fire the Minister for Special Development Initiative and Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Hon Hawa Koomson for firing a gun.

As a country and people with a common destiny, it is important to state that those in leadership must be seen acting responsibly for the entire citizenry to emulate.

As she has admitted yesterday on National Television that she fired gunshots at a Registration Center in her Constituency, it is imperative that His Excellency Nana Addo relieves her for embarrassing his government and the nation at large.

It is very regrettable and shameful for an honourable member of the legislature to have exhibited such a reprehensible, criminal and condemnable act.

As a woman, society expects more decency, calmness and motherhood tendencies from her.

Unfortunately, she has let all women down with her conduct.

We expect that, the President relieves her of her position as a minister if she refuses to do the honourable thing by resigning.

It is important to state that peace does not rest in the charters and constitutional provisions alone but also in the hearts and minds of all citizens, hence it behooves we ensure national peace as we are preparing to go through another crucial election as a nation.

We should all be committed to the registration exercise by making sure it is peaceful across the nation thereby avoiding all ugly tendencies.

Let us all be reminded that the December 7th, election is not a do or die affair, but a contest of ideas and whoever wins is the one to lead the country.

We are by statement urging all to maintain peace before, during and after the election.

Having said that, we conclude by reiterating our call for His Excellency Nana Addo to with immediate effect sack Hon Hawa Koomson in order for it to serve as a deterrent to any political party member, who will like to replicate such a shameful act in the future.
