An event dubbed The Kenkey and Pork Party, will be held at Mantse Agbonaa, James Town in Accra on Saturday, October 19 as part of activities to mark this year's World Food Day in this country.
Organised by Farmers Pride, the Kenkey and Pork Party aims at giving the public an opportunity to get all the assorted dishes made from pork that they can eat with kenkey at one venue.
Made from maize, kenkey is a staple food in several parts of this country, especially in the coastal areas. The most popular types include the Ga and Fante varieties.
One of the organisers of the event, Kojo Preko Dankwah, said the programme is an attempt to bring kenkey and pork to the doorsteps of those who patronise it and make the items more attractive to those yet to develop the taste for them.
'There are some negative perceptions about pork which make some people stay away from it in preference to beef, chicken or fish. Whatever the thinking about pork, it contains a low amount of fat which makes it likeable for health-conscious folks', he added.
Farmers Pride hopes to, through the Kenkey and Pork Party, create more positive views about pork to help boost its consumption. There would be a forum to educate people on the health benefits of eating pork at the event which will also attract musical performances.
The face of the maiden Kenkey and Pork Party is popular Twi actress, Rose Akua Ataa Mensah, popularly known as Kyeiwaa.
Other public figures that have associated themselves with the Kenkey and Pork Party include Akosua Safoa Kantimpo of Adom FM, Andy Dosty and Kwame B of Hitz FM and Miss Excel Plus 2012, Ms Lawrencia Abena Wurah.
