Most people who have lived in compound houses in Accra are familiar with the constant quarrels, fights and misunderstanding that ensues between co-tenants and even with landlords/ladies.

More often than not these fights usually stems from gossips. However, it's very possible to live a compound house without getting involved in quarrels.

Here are four ways to live a stress free life in a compound house.

1. Be friendly but don't make friends
You can be friendly in a compound house but not neccesarily become friends with one particular person. Exchanging greetings, offering assistance when the need arises and gifting children in the house once in a while is a good way to maintain healthy relationships.

2. Do not enter other tenant's room.
Entering other tenants room for chats breeds gossip and gossips begets misunderstanding and then fights. You wanted a single or chamber room and that is what you have now so what do you want in other's room?

3. Do not befriend land lady, landlord nor thier relatives

Familiarity breeds... If you become close to them the probability about you gossiping about other tenants to them is very high. You may try to be close to the landlord to seek favour from him but remember you are a tenant just like the others you gossip about and when its time to pay rent or your rent is up, you will not be spared.

4. Being resouceful
Ensure that you have basic home needs like pepper, salt, oil, needle, polish, scrubbing brush. You may think that costantly asking for these things from co-tenants is not a big deal but when accumulated, is like a time bomb waiting to explode.

5. Chores
Don't miss chores like sweeping the compound and scrubbing which is the responsibility of all tenants. Nothing is more annoying like a tenant who always does not fulfil his part of these responsibilities. Those who cannot hold it in burst out in insults and fights in a way to express their anger or disaproval.

6. Noise
Playing music on high volume is a major trigger of fights among tenants. The fact that you are happy and cooling of with your favorite tunes does'nt mean same for other tenents. Probably, another tenant is going through difficult times and needs a serene environment to think through and put themselves together.
