American rapper and business mogul Jay-Z has been officially announced as the headline performer for the 2027 Super Bowl LXI halftime show, ending years of helping select and produce performances by other music stars for the biggest event in American football.
The announcement was made on October 26, 2026, by the National Football League (NFL), Apple Music and Roc Nation during the Monday Night Football game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles.
The highly anticipated performance is scheduled for February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
Jay-Z, born Shawn Carter, will headline the Apple Music Super Bowl LXI Halftime Show as Roc Nation continues its partnership with the NFL. The entertainment company, which he founded, has played a major role in selecting performers and producing the halftime show since 2019.
According to the NFL, Jay-Z's appointment represents a significant moment in his relationship with the event, as he moves from helping shape its musical line-up to becoming the main attraction himself.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell expressed excitement about the rapper's decision to perform, revealing that he had previously hoped Jay-Z would eventually take the stage when the time was right.
Goodell said the rapper's influence on the halftime show over the years had been extraordinary and expressed confidence that his artistry, creativity and cultural impact would deliver a memorable experience for audiences worldwide.
Reacting to the announcement, Jay-Z described the opportunity as another milestone in his musical journey, reflecting on three decades of music, work and cultural influence.
The performance comes as the rapper celebrates the 30th anniversary of his debut album, Reasonable Doubt, released in 1996. His anniversary celebrations have included sold-out concerts at Yankee Stadium in New York, as well as performances in London, Paris and Los Angeles.
Jay-Z is a 25-time Grammy Award winner and one of hip-hop's most influential figures. Beyond music, he has built a successful business career through ventures in entertainment and other industries.
His appointment also raises anticipation about the possibility of special guest appearances during the halftime show. His wife, global music superstar Beyoncé, is among the artists fans may speculate about, although no guest performers have been officially confirmed.
Previous Super Bowl halftime headliners under the NFL's partnership with Roc Nation have included Shakira and Jennifer Lopez, The Weeknd, Dr. Dre and his collaborators, Rihanna, Usher, Kendrick Lamar and Bad Bunny.
The 2027 Super Bowl will be broadcast on ESPN and ABC, with streaming available on Disney+ and through NFL+ on supported mobile devices.
With Jay-Z now confirmed as the headline performer, attention will turn to how the rap icon plans to bring his extensive catalogue of hits and three decades of musical influence to one of the world's biggest entertainment stages.
