Media personality and legal practitioner Serwaa Amihere has advised women against purchasing counterfeit luxury fashion items to create an impression of wealth, urging them to embrace affordable fashion while working towards their financial goals.
Speaking at The Complete Ignite Woman session on October 25, 2026, she cautioned women against rushing to acquire expensive fashion items simply because they see others wearing them.
According to her, women should exercise patience as they work towards improving their financial circumstances rather than spending money on fake designer products to impress others.
“You know what you are wearing is not gold; it's copper, but you pack plenty on you. Why? It's very offensive. All the things that you are wishing for, you will get them one day. Don't rush it,” she said.
Serwaa Amihere explained that her ability to afford certain fashion items today was the result of gradual personal and financial growth.
She recounted a time when she could not afford some of the shoes and dresses she admired, encouraging women to understand that their financial circumstances could improve with time.
“I am standing here; many years ago, I couldn't afford to buy this shoe. You're here and saying, 'This dress is lovely'. Next year, I want to wear the white dress that person wore. Let me tell you, in a few years, even these dresses that we are wearing will be too cheap for you. You would want to buy a very expensive one, so don't rush it,” she stated.
She also warned that carrying counterfeit designer accessories could influence how others perceive a person, particularly in professional environments.
Using the Hermès Birkin bag as an example, she questioned why anyone would purchase a counterfeit version of a luxury product to create a false impression.
“The bag that costs over $25,000. Some people are selling it for GH₵300,” she said.
Rather than spending money on counterfeit products, Serwaa Amihere encouraged women to make the most of affordable fashion options while remaining confident in their appearance.
She stressed that expensive designer brands could become attainable as their financial circumstances improved, urging them to prioritise personal growth over the pressure to impress others.
She concluded by reminding women that their fashion choices and overall presentation could shape the opinions people form about them.
