Marriage benefits men, not women — TikToker Ella Diaries

TikTok influencer Ella Diaries has opened up about her experience with early marriage, admitting that if she had the opportunity to turn back the hands of time, she would not have rushed into marriage.

Speaking in an interview with Abena Ghana on the Our Journey TV show, which also airs on Adom TV and Abena Ghana TV, Ella Diaries said she entered marriage largely because of love but has since come to appreciate the importance of taking time to understand a partner before making a lifelong commitment.

According to her, rushing into a relationship because of love can prevent people from recognising their partner's shortcomings.

“When you rush into relationships because of love, it makes you blind. If the person is doing something wrong, you will not even see it. If you rush, you will crash,” she said.

She advised people to take their time to understand the people they intend to build relationships with rather than allowing emotions to dictate their decisions.

Ella Diaries also expressed concern about the pressure placed on women to marry, particularly in families and communities where marriage is highly valued.

She said that although she has seen people in seemingly successful marriages, she believes some couples experience difficulties they do not reveal publicly.

“If I could go back and change the hands of time, I will change marriage. I will not be in a hurry to get married,” she stated.

The influencer further argued that, in her view, marriage can sometimes place restrictions on women, leaving them feeling controlled and having to seek permission from their husbands before making certain decisions.

She questioned why women should be pressured into marriage when relationships can also lead to commitment and family life without necessarily involving marriage.

However, Ella Diaries acknowledged that her views stem from her personal experiences and observations, adding that she would take more time to make the right choice if she decided to marry again.

Her comments also touched on the emotional consequences of betrayal in romantic relationships, particularly for women who may find it difficult to trust again after being hurt.

Ella Diaries urged people not to rush into marriage simply because they are in love, stressing the importance of knowing a partner well before making such a significant decision.
