Rapper and entrepreneur D-Black has expressed disappointment over the number of radio and television stations paying royalties to the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO).

“The only stations paying royalties to the Ghanaian musician via GHAMRO all these years — 16 out of 700+. Sadly!!!” he wrote in a social media post.

His reaction followed a meeting with GHAMRO’s new Chief Executive Officer, during which he was shown a list of broadcast stations reportedly fulfilling their music royalty obligations.

According to the organisation, only 16 out of more than 700 radio and television stations in Ghana are currently paying royalties through GHAMRO.

Eight of the compliant stations belong to the Multimedia Group Limited: Adom FM, Nhyira FM, Joy Prime, Adom TV, Luv FM, Asempa FM, Hitz FM and Joy FM.

GHAMRO has emphasised that compliance with copyright laws and music licensing requirements is essential to ensuring that musicians, songwriters and publishers are compensated for the use of their creative works.

The organisation also commended the stations featured in its 2026 list of top‑compliant broadcasters, describing their adherence as a meaningful contribution to the growth of Ghana’s creative economy.

D-Black’s comments have renewed public attention on royalty payments within the broadcasting industry and the broader need for music creators to receive fair compensation when their works are played on radio and television.
