Ghanaian entertainer and musician Sam Kwabena Safo Junior, popularly known as Showboy, has revealed that he aspired to become President of Ghana while growing up.
He said former Senior Minister Yaw Osafo-Maafo influenced his early political ambitions because of the admiration he commanded in the Eastern Region, where Showboy grew up.
Speaking on the 'Talk To Kula' podcast, the musician also reflected on how his political views changed over time, particularly his perception of former President Jerry John Rawlings.
“Back then in SHS, I wanted to become the president of Ghana,” Showboy said when asked about his early career dreams.
He explained that growing up in the Eastern Region, he regarded Mr Osafo-Maafo as a highly influential political figure and wanted to emulate him.
However, Showboy said his views about Mr Rawlings were different at the time, although he later developed an appreciation for the former president’s political intelligence.
“Growing up, and I'm like, ah, okay, JJ was really smart. He was just smarter than them,” he said, referring to Mr Rawlings.
In the interview, Showboy who was imprisoned some time back in the United States, said he has regretted certain decisions he made in his early life, particularly not heeding the advise of his father.
