Jomoro Member of Parliament Dorcas Affo‑Toffey has extended financial support to Ghanaian actor and filmmaker Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win, for his ongoing movie production A Journey to Africa, currently being shot at Nzulezu in the Jomoro Municipality of the Western Region.
The MP, who also serves as a Deputy Minister for Transport, made a financial contribution toward the production in a move aimed at supporting the creative arts industry and promoting filmmaking in the municipality.
Her donation was presented to the production team by Jomoro Municipal Chief Executive Benedict Boadi, who visited the set on her behalf. The amount donated was not disclosed.
Speaking on behalf of the MP, Mr. Boadi said she was committed to supporting Lil Win and the broader movie industry, particularly creative projects being undertaken in Nzulezu and the Jomoro Municipality.
The production has attracted several prominent Nigerian actors and actresses, including Patience Ozokwor, Kanayo O. Kanayo, Zubby Michael, Charles Awurum, Mike Ezuruonye, and Destiny Etiko.
Meanwhile, the Paramount Chief of the Nsein Traditional Area, Awulae Kwasi Amakyi III, has visited the film set to interact with Lil Win and his team, commending them for their creative efforts and expressing interest in the development of Ghana’s film industry.
During the visit, the traditional ruler reportedly recommended actors IK and Rukaya for consideration in the ongoing production.
Beyond his support for A Journey to Africa, Awulae Kwasi Amakyi III pledged his prayers for Lil Win’s proposed movie about Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
The proposed project is expected to explore the life and legacy of Dr. Nkrumah, a key figure in Ghana’s independence struggle and the country’s political history. However, further details regarding the film’s production, cast, and release date have not been announced.
The current production is taking place at Nzulezu, a distinctive settlement built on stilts over Lake Tadane. The community is known for its unique architecture and natural scenery, making it an attractive location for showcasing Ghana’s cultural heritage through filmmaking.
The involvement of the MP and the traditional ruler highlights the role political and traditional leaders can play in supporting the creative arts industry, encouraging local talent, and promoting tourism through film productions.
As work continues on A Journey to Africa, attention will also be on the possible development of Lil Win’s proposed film on Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, which could bring the story and legacy of Ghana’s first President to a wider audience.
