Florence rebrands as Queen Florence the Lioness after divorce with Bishop Obinim

Ghanaian gospel musician Florence has adopted a new identity in the music industry following the traditional dissolution of her marriage to preacher Bishop Daniel Obinim.

The singer, who was previously known professionally as Florence Obinim, has announced that she will now be recognised as Queen Florence the Lioness.

Florence confirmed the change in an interaction with Ghanaian Blogger, signalling a fresh chapter in both her personal life and music career.

“Now my music name is Queen Florence the Lioness,” she said.

The development comes after the traditional dissolution of Florence’s more than two-decade marriage to Bishop Obinim, the founder and leader of the International God’s Way Church.

The separation became a subject of public discussion in September following reports that traditional rites associated with the ending of the marriage had been performed.

Bishop Obinim had also publicly called on Florence to stop using his family name following the dissolution.

In an audio recording that surfaced earlier in September, the preacher spoke about the breakdown of the marriage and warned Florence’s continued use of the surname “Obinim.”

The recording on September 14, captured Bishop Obinim saying he had accepted the drink presented during the traditional process, which he said signified the end of their union.

He subsequently urged Florence to remove “Obinim” from her name and made other remarks concerning their relationship.

Florence’s decision to adopt Queen Florence the Lioness therefore marks a clear departure from the name under which she built much of her career.

The new stage name is expected to feature in her future musical releases and public engagements as she moves forward following the end of her marriage.
