Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has ignited a fresh national conversation on street‑food hygiene, arguing that basic protective measures could significantly improve business for roadside vendors.
Street food remains a daily lifeline for millions across the country, yet concerns about sanitation persist. The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has repeatedly cautioned against buying food sold near open gutters, and recent hygiene trainings for vendors in Madina have shown that cleaner practices build customer trust and increase earnings.
In a post on X, Sarkodie wrote: “Only if roadside food vendors knew how much of a difference it would make in their sales if they took hygiene a bit more seriously. Simple things like gloves, nose masks, hair caps, etc would go a long way and boost sales significantly.”
His comment has triggered widespread reactions online, with many urging city authorities to intensify public education on hygiene and enforce existing regulations.
