Meet Okyerefo Kojo: The versatile trendsetter ready for the world stage

Ghanaian music continues to produce fresh talents, and one artiste making a strong impression is Okyerefo Kojo, born Eugene Agyapong and hailing from Kwahu Nkwatia and Gyakiti in Akwamu.

His passion for music developed at an early age. While in primary school, he was already leading worship, playing instruments in church and nurturing a talent that would eventually become his career. By his teenage years, he had committed himself fully to music.

Growing up in Dansoman, an area known for its vibrant music culture, Okyerefo Kojo drew inspiration from established Ghanaian musicians such as Okomfour Kwadee, Obour and Obrafour. Those influences have contributed to the depth and originality evident in his music.

One of his defining qualities is his versatility. Rather than limiting himself to a particular style, he explores different genres and musical expressions.

"I don't copy trends, I am a trendsetter. I don't do one particular genre because I'm versatile," he says.

His musical repertoire spans Reggae, Hiplife, Highlife and Afrobeats, while he also showcases his ability as a rapper. Over the years, he has worked with renowned Ghanaian producers, including Appiatus, Zapp Mallet, Hype Lyrics, Marron and Benverj Studios.

Among his songs are "Meditation", "Life" and "Wontumi Rasta". He is now preparing to release another single, "BƆ No Biom", ahead of his upcoming album.

Awards, stages and setbacks
Okyerefo Kojo has performed on several major platforms and participated in numerous radio interviews and concerts across Ghana. He was also featured on the Adom Festival Train, further exposing his talent to a wider audience.

His work has received recognition at the Akuapem Music Awards, where he won Songwriter of the Year and Best Collaboration.

His career, however, has also experienced difficulties. One of his major setbacks came when funds provided by an investor for a music project were allegedly absconded by a middleman. The experience presented a significant challenge, but he says it strengthened his resolve to continue pursuing his ambitions.

Beyond music, Okyerefo Kojo is also involved in business.

A bigger vision for the future
Looking ahead, the musician has set his sights on expanding his audience beyond Ghana and performing on international stages.

Among the artistes he hopes to collaborate with are his longtime brother Shatta Wale, as well as Medikal and Stonebwoy.

Over the next two years, he plans to build a larger global fanbase and secure opportunities to perform internationally through hard work and determination.

His message to his fans is simple: "Expect hits after hits and other humanitarian projects."

Okyerefo Kojo is positioning himself for a new chapter in his musical journey, with his upcoming single and album expected to form part of his next phase.
