Ohemaa Mercy explains biblical meaning behind Tehillah Experience outfit

Gospel musician Ohemaa Mercy has explained the biblical symbolism behind the ceremonial outfit she wore at the 13th edition of the Tehillah Experience at the Oil Dome of Royalhouse Chapel.

The event, held under the theme “The Altar of Fire,” sparked discussions about the elaborate attire she wore while making her entrance to lead worshippers.

In a Facebook post, Ohemaa Mercy said her appearance was not merely a stage entrance but an “altar entry,” with every element of her outfit designed to convey a spiritual message.

“At this year’s Tehillah Experience, Ohemaa Mercy did not simply mount the stage she made an altar entry. Long before she lifted the microphone, her attire had already delivered a sermon,” she said.

She explained that the costume drew on biblical themes of priesthood, sacrifice, consecration and divine presence.

The cap – the priestly mitre
Ohemaa Mercy identified the cap as one of the most significant features of the outfit, saying it was inspired by the mitre, or Miznefet, worn by the High Priest.

Referring to Exodus 28:36-38, she highlighted the inscription associated with the priestly headpiece:

“You shall make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it, like the engraving of a signet: HOLINESS TO THE LORD.”

She said the cap was intended to symbolise priesthood and holiness rather than serve as a fashion accessory.

“This was not a fashion statement. It was priesthood.”

She also cited Leviticus 6:13, which states:
“The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar; it shall never go out.”

According to her, the mitre represented her spiritual role during the programme, portraying her as a priestess tending the altar and set apart for holy service.

She added that the cap signified covering and submission to divine authority, referencing 1 Corinthians 11:5.

The cross
Ohemaa Mercy also explained the meaning of the cross carried ahead of her during the entrance and covered with white linen.

“The Cross carried ahead with white linen is the heart of our faith.”

She said the cross represented Christ going before believers, while the white linen symbolised His righteousness and resurrection.

“We do not approach the altar by our own strength, but by the finished work of Calvary.”

She referenced John 19:17, which recounts Jesus carrying His cross to the place of His crucifixion.

The cross, she added, also represented the believer’s death to self, drawing on Galatians 2:20: “I am crucified with Christ.”

She further cited Colossians 1:20, which speaks of reconciliation through the blood of Christ’s cross.

Ohemaa Mercy said the decision to place the cross ahead of her during the entrance was deliberate.

“So the cross had to go first that night to make peace, so that God’s presence could enter the room.”

The garment – fire and royal priesthood

The final major feature of the outfit was the flowing robe, which combined shades of white, gold and crimson.

Ohemaa Mercy said the colours reflected themes of fire and royal priesthood and complemented the symbolism of the cap and the cross.

She explained that the white, gold and crimson represented holiness, glory, sacrifice and the fire of God, in line with the theme of the event.

Through the outfit, she sought to communicate that her entrance at the 2026 Tehillah Experience was more than an artistic or ceremonial presentation.

Rather, she described it as a visual sermon designed to draw worshippers’ attention to God, the cross, holiness, sacrifice and the altar of fire.
