Davido calls on Trump to intervene in Nigeria's Osun State gubernatorial elections over fears of violence

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar David Adedeji Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has appealed to United States President Donald Trump to pay close attention to the upcoming Osun State governorship election.

The election is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, with Davido’s uncle, Ademola Adeleke, seeking to return to the Osun State governorship on the platform of the Accord Party.

Ademola Adeleke won the 2022 Osun governorship election as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before leaving the party.

In a statement shared via social media on Tuesday, August 11, the famed singer expressed concern over what he described as increasing tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation and disruption of the democratic process ahead of the election.

“President Donald Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election,” Davido wrote.

Davido urged the United States and the international community to closely monitor the election and encourage relevant authorities to protect voters and ensure that their votes are respected.

He said residents of Osun State should be allowed to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely and peacefully without fear.

“We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election,” he added.
