The Nigerian Army has detained two soldiers for allegedly providing unauthorised security at the wedding ceremony of Nigerian social media personalities Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, and his wife, Jarvis, held in Lekki over the weekend.
The soldiers, identified as Privates Onasanya Ifeoluwa and Ukpai Onyinyechi, are attached to the Nigerian Army Medical Services and Hospital in Obalende, Lagos.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, Lt.-Col. Musa Yahaya, said the two personnel were taken into custody on Tuesday, August 4, following an internal investigation.
According to reports, the soldiers came under scrutiny after videos from the high-profile wedding went viral on social media. The footage showed them dressed in full military uniform while providing security and escorting guests around the event venue.
One of the widely shared clips allegedly showed a soldier escorting a popular TikTok personality through the crowd, prompting mixed reactions online.
The Nigerian Army is expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deployment of the soldiers and determine whether military regulations were breached.
