The official launch of NkrumahFest 2026 has taken place at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra, marking the beginning of activities commemorating the 117th birth anniversary of Ghana's founding President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
Held on Friday, July 31, 2026, under the theme "Freedom and Justice," the launch signalled the commencement of the Journey to Nkroful, a nationwide commemoration dedicated to celebrating the life, vision and enduring legacy of the man widely regarded as the founder of modern Ghana.
The colourful ceremony brought together government officials, traditional leaders, Pan-Africanists, students, civil society groups and admirers of Dr. Nkrumah, who reflected on his immense contributions to Ghana's independence, nation-building and the broader African liberation movement.
Addressing participants, organisers noted that NkrumahFest 2026 seeks to reignite national consciousness around the ideals that guided Dr. Nkrumah's leadership, including freedom, justice, unity, self-determination and Pan-Africanism.
They emphasised that the annual celebration is intended not only to honour the memory of Ghana's first President but also to inspire present and future generations to embrace his vision of a prosperous, united and self-reliant Ghana within a strong and integrated Africa.
A major highlight of this year's celebration is the symbolic Journey to Nkroful, where participants will travel to Dr. Nkrumah's birthplace in the Western Region for a series of commemorative activities celebrating his enduring contributions to Ghana and the African continent.
The organisers indicated that NkrumahFest 2026 will feature educational forums, cultural performances, youth engagements, exhibitions, public lectures and community activities designed to deepen public appreciation of Dr. Nkrumah's life and philosophy.
The launch officially begins the countdown to NkrumahFest 2026, with organisers expressing optimism that this year's commemoration will attract broad national and international participation in honour of one of Africa's most influential statesmen and Pan-African icons.
