'Everything I achieved was to prove to my father that I could make it' – Shatta Wale

Ghanaian dancehall musician Shatta Wale has revealed one of the biggest motivations behind his music career was proving to his father that he could succeed despite the challenges he faced growing up.

The SM boss revealed that his mother left his father, after which his father remarried, creating a home environment that pushed him to find his own path.

He also disclosed that although his mother tried to seek support from relatives to help his music career, no one was willing to assist.

“My family didn’t support my music,” he said in an interview on The Honest Bunch podcast.

According to the musician, he continued pursuing music even after those around him doubted his dream.

He said his father was not someone who openly praised him, but things began to change after he started succeeding and buying properties.

“When I started buying properties, my father started talking to me like a real man,” Shatta Wale said.

The award-winning artist added that many of the decisions he made throughout his career were driven by a desire to earn his father’s respect.

“Everything I’m doing… is for my dad. I wanted him to have hope in me that I could do it,” he stated.
