Nigerian musician, Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has stirred controversy on social media after suggesting that Nigeria's indigenous languages offer little practical benefit.

The former P-Square member remarked while interacting with fans on X during a family holiday in Paris, France.

Earlier, the singer shared his excitement over hearing his children speak French fluently, writing: “Still in Paris! Watching my kids speak French so effortlessly makes me think… maybe it's time to own a crib here in Paris.”

However, when a fan asked, “Hope they can speak Igbo, too?” Peter replied, “And who naija language help? Make I hear word abeg.”

His response quickly sparked criticism online, with many social media users accusing him of disrespecting his cultural heritage.

Several critics pointed out that Peter has incorporated Igbo and other indigenous languages, including Yoruba, into many of his hit songs, helping him connect with audiences and build a successful music career.
