Jamaican dancehall musician, Popcaan has been officially enstooled as a chief in the Asebu Traditional Area of the Central Region.
The coronation ceremony took place on February 17, 2026, marking what many described as a historic moment for the community.
The “Family” hitmaker was given the stool name Nana Arkoh Kese I and installed as the Aboafohen (Development Chief) of the Apagyahen Division.
Sharing his excitement on Instagram on Thursday, Popcaan wrote: “Nana is Grateful!!! love and respect to my people. Together we Push
#KESE.”
Videos from the colourful ceremony showed the musician dressed in Kente cloth, with herbs tied around his neck, as chiefs performed the traditional enstoolment rites. In line with custom, he was lifted and placed on the stool three times to signify his acceptance and installation.
The honour reflects the growing cultural ties between Ghana and the Caribbean, particularly Jamaica, and recognises Popcaan's influence and connection to the African continent.
