A viral video circulating on social media captures a young woman recounting how a man allegedly defrauded her sister of cash and a mobile phone in an incident said to have occurred in Kumasi.
According to the lady in the video, the suspect initially approached her sister with a promise to get her a new and better mobile phone. She explained that the man convinced her sister to hand over her current phone along with an additional GH¢1,600 as a top-up to facilitate the purchase of the supposed replacement device.
After taking the phone and the GH¢1,600, the suspect reportedly asked her sister to give him some time to arrange the new phone. However, while she was waiting, the situation allegedly took a more serious turn.
The lady further alleged that the man gained access to her sister’s mobile money (MoMo) account and withdrew an additional GH¢5,000, bringing the total amount lost to GH¢7,600. Shortly after the withdrawal, the suspect allegedly went into hiding and cut off communication.
Following the incident, the victim reportedly informed her sister about the fraud. Determined to recover the money and expose the suspect, the sister allegedly devised a plan. She took the suspect’s phone number and pretended to be romantically interested in him, initiating conversations and building what appeared to be a relationship.
After gaining his trust, she reportedly convinced him to visit her in her village under the pretext of spending time together. Upon his arrival, she allegedly teamed up with some local youth in the community, who helped apprehend the suspect.
In the video, the lady stated that they intend to hand the suspect over to the authorities to face justice. It remains unclear whether the police have officially taken custody of the individual at the time of reporting.
