Presidential Staffer for the Black Stars Experience and veteran highlife artiste, Rex Owusu Marfo, popularly known as Rex Omar, has hinted at the possibility of producing a tribute song or documentary in honour of the late highlife legend, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, known well as Daddy Lumba.
Daddy Lumba, who had over 30 career albums, was confirmed dead on Saturday, July 26, at the Bank Hospital in Accra, after a short illness.
Speaking to the media on Monday, July 28, Rex Omar said the industry was still in shock and had not settled on a specific plan to honour the icon.
However, the musician and politician assured that a fitting tribute will be made.
“I think it’s early stages. You know, some of these things come naturally. I’m sure when the industry leadership puts their heads together, something will happen. It may not necessarily be a song — it may be a documentary or something else. But as I stand here, I’m still devastated, so I can’t think straight,” he said.
Rex Omar also stated that while he cannot confirm if the late musician will be given a state burial, his office will collaborate with stakeholders to ensure Daddy Lumba is honoured appropriately.
“Lumba is an icon for this whole industry. As far as my office is concerned, it is a government office, and I know His Excellency John Dramani Mahama does not take the creative industry for granted. So definitely, we’ll work with the family and the industry to give him a befitting burial,” he added.
