Ghana is mourning the loss of one of its greatest musical treasures. Charles Kwadwo Fosu, affectionately known as Daddy Lumba, has died at the age of 60.
The iconic highlife musician passed away in the early hours of Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Bank Hospital in Accra, where he had been undergoing treatment for an undisclosed illness.
Sources close to the family confirmed that he was admitted for several days and succumbed to the illness at dawn.
News of his death sent shockwaves through the country. By midday, hundreds of fans, industry colleagues, and well-wishers had gathered outside his East Legon residence in Accra, overwhelmed with grief and disbelief.
In an official statement released by the family through their legal representatives, Baba Jamal & Associates, Daddy Lumba was described as far more than just a celebrated artist.

“Daddy Lumba was more than a musician; he was a cultural icon whose music touched countless lives,” the statement read.
For over four decades, Daddy Lumba dominated the Ghanaian music scene, delivering a catalogue of timeless hits that became the soundtrack of a generation. His ability to blend poetic lyricism with infectious melodies earned him a place in the hearts of millions, both in Ghana and across the diaspora.
From his humble beginnings in Nsuta, Ashanti Region, to becoming a household name, Daddy Lumba’s rise to fame mirrored the resilience and dynamism of the Ghanaian spirit. His influence shaped the evolution of highlife music and inspired generations of musicians who followed in his footsteps.
His passing leaves a void in Ghana's cultural landscape that will be difficult to fill.
Funeral arrangements and further details are expected to be announced by the family in the coming days. Meanwhile, tributes continue to pour in from across the world as Ghanaians celebrate the life and legacy of a man whose voice became the soul of a nation.
