LAST FRIDAY night was a night of three G's - glamour, glee and glitz - when Venus Films Production, one of the leading movie producers in Ghana, thrilled movie enthusiasts with the premiering of its latest sensation, 'Agony of the Christ.'

The scores of movie enthusiasts who thronged the National Theater in Accra would certainly not only boast that they were the first to view the must-see movie but the first to enjoy it also.

Besides the good acting and its thrilling nature, the movie has everything characteristic of a standard movie. An appealing story line, good costuming, sound quality, setting and pictures were among the noticeable characteristics of this movie.

Agony of the Christ is an epic movie that shows the beauty of the African culture. It is a story about the suffering of the true believers of Jesus Christ in both the past and latter days.

It talks about a village called Ejukrom where human beings were used for sacrifices by the priestess of the land to appease the gods.

Then came Christianity, a strange way of doing things to the people, brought by one young man, Majid Michael. He was once banished from the village but later returned to liberate his people from the gods.

However the gods got angered and what unfolded in this movie is something one has to see for him or herself. Starring in this movie are Nadia Buari, Majid Michael, Kofi Adjorlolo, Eddie Nartey, Naana Hayford and a host of other seasoned artistes.

Written and produced by Abdul Salam Mumuni of Venus Films Production and directed by Frank Rajah Arase, the movie is arguably a step-up of Venus Films' earlier pieces as Play Boy, Girls Connection, Princess Tyra, Crime to Christ, etc.

Last year, its movie, Beyonce won an award at the African Movie Academy Awards in Nigeria. This year, its Princess Tyra picked two awards at the same event. The same movie has also been nominated for an award at the Zafaa African Films Awards in London.
