Popular Nollywood actress, Bimbo Akintola, has revealed the reason behind her decision to remain unmarried.
In an interview with fellow actor Emmanuel Ehumadu, the 54-year-old actress shared that the man she truly loved passed away, and she has not found anyone else with whom she envisions a lasting future.
During the interview, when asked about her marital status, Akintola simply responded, “No,” confirming that she is not married.
“He died,” she said quietly, adding, “I don’t talk about it, but he died. Do you know how long it took me to find him? A very long time, but he is gone.”
The actress, known for her roles in numerous Nollywood films, explained that she doesn’t believe in getting married just for the sake of it, emphasizing the importance of being true to one’s vows.
“I don’t believe that you get married for marriage’s sake. If you are not going to be truthful to your vows, then why are you doing it? The person wey me fit do forever for don die. He’s gone,” she said.
While Akintola acknowledged that some people may find love multiple times in their lifetime, she revealed that it took her a long time to find the one person she was certain she could spend the rest of her life with.
“I am not saying that you can’t have two or three loves in your lifetime, but do you know how long it took me to find that one that I knew I could stay with?” she shared.
Akintola also spoke about her reluctance to marry just to satisfy societal expectations, expressing her disdain for the idea of getting married simply to conform to what others think is right.
“I am also too old to ignore red flags when I see them, and I think I am too old to manage and say I am doing something just to make other people happy. Who are those people? To make the world happy, I should marry someone so that the world can say you don do am,” said the actress.
“It doesn’t make sense, I don’t care, I really don’t care. No, I won’t do that for anybody. I am always truthful to myself because at the end of the day if someone dies, when you stand in front of God, na you and God, one on one you go answer the question, nobody go answer the question for you. So, I am living my life in all truthfulness, being truthful to myself,” she added.
Despite having dated since the passing of her love bird, Akintola revealed that none of the men she’s been with have made her feel the same forever.
“I have dated, but I have never seen myself marrying those people. I didn’t see forever with those people,” she confessed.
The actress went on to say that if she ever finds someone she can see a future with, she would be open to marriage, regardless of her age.
“If I ever see someone and I see forever with that person, I will do it even if I am 82, I will do it, but I won’t do it if I don’t see that person,” she noted.
