Ghanaian socialite and newly converted Muslim Rosemond Brown, popularly known as Akuapem Poloo, says converting to Islam has transformed her into a better person and given her newfound peace.
Poloo recently performed Umrah, the lesser pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia, an experience she found deeply moving.
In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, Akuapem Poloo spoke enthusiastically about visiting the holy Kaaba in Mecca.
“I was overwhelmed with joy seeing the sacred Kaaba. I had goosebumps all over me," she said. Navigating the massive crowds to touch and circle the Kaaba seven times was a struggle, but "worth it," she said.
The actress who used to twerk in public credits Islam with significant positive changes in her life.
“Islam has really changed my way of life. I don’t take in alcohol anymore and I have become a better woman and mother to my son," she stated.
She says she is more respectful and avoids anything that could upset her child.
The actress acknowledged that certain Islamic practices like waking for 5am prayers and wearing more modest clothing like abayas were initially difficult adjustments.
However, with support from Islamic leaders and friends, she has embraced the faith.
"We all serve one God, but being a Muslim has been a blessing to me. I’m always at peace; it has opened a lot of doors for me and I’m so grateful to Allah," Poloo reflected.
Poloo thanked Allah for her journey in Islam so far and Chief Imam Sheikh Usman Sharubutu for teaching her the practices.
She is also grateful to Alhaji Abdul Salam and Montage Travel and Tours for facilitating her Umrah pilgrimage.
