Veteran Ghanaian musician Amandzeba Nat Brew has opined on the current state of the nation’s entertainment sector.

To him, treating music as the "cheapest commodity" is "disastrous" for the country's entertainment industry and the nation’s growth.

For the Ghanaian entertainment industry to thrive, the legend said more value needs to be placed on music and entertainment.

The 78-year-old music legend made the remarks in an interview with Accra-based Asaase Radio on Wednesday, August 9.

"Ghana, we joke with entertainment, and in any country where music is the cheapest commodity, it's disastrous," Amandzeba said.

Entertainment play an important role in a country's development by creating jobs, spurring innovation, and promoting culture and national identity.

However, Ghana's music industry has struggled with issues like piracy and poor royalty collections.

Amandzeba first became a known member of the band Nakorex, formed in 1992 with Akosua Agyapong and Rex Omar.

He later married Akosua Agyapong but divorced later.

Amandzeba is most known in Ghana for his song 'Wogbejeke', off the album of the same name.

Following the success of 'Wogbejeke', Nat Brew adopted the name Amandzeba, meaning "Tradition Child" or "Custom Child", to reflect his African roots.

In January 2020 Amandzeba signed with US label Jah Mikal Entertainment and announced the release of a new album and a collaboration with the US rapper, Michael Morgan, to make a remix of Wogbejeke.

The legendary singer was briefly hospitalised following a car accident in the same month.

In May 2020 Amandzeba released a song honouring frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
