Albert Nathaniel Hyde, better known as Bongo Ideas, says he is "a free man" after popular Ghanaian social media influencer and forex trader, Bright Kojo Onipayede alias Kojo Forex filed a GHS1 million lawsuit against him for defamation.
Kojo Forex claims Bongo Ideas published "disparaging and defamatory statements" about him on Twitter after he refused to mentor or associate with Bongo Ideas.
According to legal documents intercepted by Modernghana News, Kojo Forex runs a forex trading academy with a large social media following.
Bongo Ideas, known for controversial tweets about public figures, messaged Kojo Forex in April 2022 requesting mentorship.
After Kojo Forex refused to engage, Bongo Ideas began tweeting "disparaging and defamatory" statements in February 2023, the lawsuit alleges.
Kojo Forex's lawsuit cites tweets from Bongo Ideas calling him a "FX fraudster," "Ponzi schemer" who "steals from people."
Kojo Forex is seeking damages, an apology and restraint from further defamatory comments.
The case is scheduled to be heard soon.
In a tweet with the lawsuit documents, Kojo Forex wrote: “Bongo Ideas, see you in court.”
However, Bongo Ideas quickly hit back, tweeting: “Bongo Ideas is a free man!” indicating he is unconcerned about the lawsuit.
